Following these steps allows you to test your joysticks and buttons to ensure the hardware is working properly.
Step 1: Press the "windows" button on your keyboard. Then, type "control panel". You should see a result similar to the image below. Click on the "Control Panel" option.
If you're not sure which button is the "windows" button, look for the windows logo on one of the keys. If you're using an apple keyboard, press the "command" button.
Step 2: Next, click on the "Devices and Printers" option shown below.
Step 3: In the Devices & Printers window, you should see 2 Xbox controllers. Right click on one of them, and select "Game Controller Settings".
Step 4: In the next window, double click on one of the "Controller (XBOX 360 For Windows)"
Step 5: The resulting window allows you to test the controls (for the left or right side of your control panel) to be sure the hardware is responding correctly. Once you have tested the controls, close this window and repeat Steps 4 & 5 for the other controller.
